Thank you to
Stuart Bouyer and Jim Kavanagh for all the work they have both
put in to create this site.
I feel very
confident it will help our Club attract new members and also keep
our present members informed. If you have any suggestions as to
additional content for the web site please contact the Committee
(this can be done via the contact us link).
We need to make
sure photographs are taken at all of our events whether
competitive or social.

IT'S THAT TIME
OF YEAR
We are in the final quarter of the season
but there is still time to win yourself a trophy. There have been
a number of incidents worthy of the Paddle Award but don't be put
off, you still have a chance.
Fishing competitions is a great way to
meet and mix with other members and regardless of how long you
have been fishing, there is always something to be learnt from
other anglers. There is a good fleet of boats among the members
and it is not difficult to get a ride.
CLUB BOAT
Members are
welcome to use the club boat which is a very good 4.2 metre aluminium,
forward steer with canopy, sounder and GPS. To be eligible to use
it members have to have a boat operator's licence and prove they
are capable of towing, launching and retrieving. See Jim Kavanagh
to qualify.
It is also worthwhile sitting a seamanship
course conducted by organisations such as the Volunteer
Coastguard. All boat owners can benefit from the various courses
available.
SPEAKER NIGHTS
If you missed the Guest Speaker Night in
February, bad luck. Ian Jones and Harry Montebello entertained us
with their knowledge of whiting fishing in Port Philip and
Westernport respectively. Both speakers were generous with their
information of where and how to fish.
We have had other speaker nights relating
to competition venues and more are planned for the coming months.
Third Tuesdays are preferred nights. Check the website for more
information.

FISHING MARLO
ESTUARY IN FEBRUARY
I went down to Marlo
for a weekend fishing, didn't take the boat just the rods and
tackle for a bit of surf fishing. The surf was slow so I decided
to try the estuary near the entrance which had closed a few days
earlier. Here I had immediate response, catching 4 trevally in
about 5 minutes, then the mullet came on the bite.
Talking to some
locals 1 heard that the prawns were running well at the moment
and large catches were to be had, so that evening I went down
with the waders and net to try out my luck. When I got down there
I think there where more people there then prawns. The whole
community had decided that a good catch of prawns was in order,
so as the mosquitoes were bad and the estuary was full with
locals I left them to it.
So over the
weekend I caught many fish - about 25 Silver Trevally, 14 Mullet,
8 Tailor and 2 Bream. Because of the success I was having all
fish under 30cm I threw back. So all in all it was a great
fishing trip and there will be many more to come in the Marlo
area.
I have enclosed
some fish pics (see the website). I would like to have had more
pictures but apparently my camera was not water proof, or so I
found out.
Cheers,
Colin Grenfell
THURSDAY BOYS,
A BRIEF HISTORY
The idea of the retired members
Thursday luncheon really started on a Saturday when the members
worked on the boats and they decided to have lunch for the
workers at the club. This was provided by Les Anning picking up
the sausages and steak from Aussie Elstons shop and Keith
Berry slicing the steak. The members could have as many sausages
as one could eat as well as a piece of steak for one dollar.
The lunch was carried over to Thursday
when the retired members decided to fish during the week instead
of the weekend, and so the Thursday boys came into being.
The beginning was quite simple, some had
sandwiches and others soup supplied by Les. Alby Dredge and Ken
Spicer decided to cook sausages and charge a couple of dollars
which has helped to put quite a few dollars into club funds over
the years
The three course
meal we have today grew from this and the comradeship and company
we share today means a great deal to us all.
Fred Bouyer, March 1995
Ed: For many years the Thursday Boys
contributed about a thousand dollars a year to the Club. A very
good effort, as most were retired with limited incomes.
